Allegretti Architects Santa Fe, New Mexico
Peyote Bird Designs is a growing Santa Fe business which manufactures and distributes jewelry items in the traditions and materials of the southwest. The company’s eighty employees were previously accommodated in four separate buildings. This disjoint arrangement caused serious operational problems.
In 2003, Peyote Bird Designs engaged Allegretti Architects to accommodate their operation into a single large building. An existing 8,000 square-foot structure was fully renovated and expanded to 14,000 square feet. The old two story building became a modernized office and management core. A new product storage vault, a conference room and a penthouse office were added and a large open production wing was also constructed. The new workspace employs warm natural finishes and provides a pleasant work environment for employees.
The project incorporates many sustainable design features:
- A 10,000-gallon underground cistern is used for rainwater harvesting and captured water is distributed to drought tolerant landscaping.
- Generous day-lighting reduces power consumption and provides natural illumination in office as well as production spaces.
- An advanced processing system pre-treats sewage effluent by oxygenation.
- Recycled materials are employed for both structural members and finished surfaces.
Peyote Bird Designs was built by Wolf Corp of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
