Allegretti Architects Santa Fe, New Mexico
This 3,000 square foot new commercial gallery is located on historic Lower Canyon Road in Santa Fe. The design recalls traditional Territorial architecture and responds to issues and concerns of the adjacent residential neighborhood. The architect obtained approval for the project despite a protracted process of public hearings and administrative reviews.
Allegretti Architects designed an open exhibit space to lend versatility for showing paintings, sculpture, and southwestern antiquities. Bathroom, kitchenette, and a sunny office area complete the first floor. A full basement lends additional storage.
Although the structure fills the allowable zoning envelope, the careful exterior treatment avoids any resemblance to a plain box. Also included on the site are an ample parking lot, landscape areas, and exterior exhibit spaces. Other building features include refrigerated air conditioning and museum-quality lighting system.
