Chili Line House by Allegretti Architects in Santa Fe, New Mexico

This 2,000 square-foot home is located on a three acre lot in La Mariposa Estates north of Santa Fe.  Design issues for this project involved using care and precision in siting the structure to pull in the mountain view that was not readily apparent from the undeveloped lot.  The siting also preserves the artifact of a historic railroad bed, the “Chili Line” which bisects the property.

The home incorporates an eclectic quality suited to the owner’s unique taste.  The architect combined some bold progressive features with the elements of the traditional Pueblo style:  Saltillo tiles are set against glass block.  A traditional southwestern fireplace faces a sleek, contemporary kitchen.  An art deco ceiling fan hangs above a cow’s skull.
